The Fremantle Markets are over 100 years old and continue to attract large numbers of locals and tourists. The markets are open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There are six interactive galleries, a hands-on science lab and informative and entertaining performances. ‘Kaartadjin Koorliny’ is a fascinating experience with a perception tunnel and musical lighting that responds to body movements. The experience is centred on the keywords of Think, Create and Share. Access to the planetarium at Scitech is included in your admission price. It is truly impressive with an 18-metre 180-degree dome which features surround sound. There is a cafe on-site and other food outlets nearby. As your ticket is valid all day, you can leave to eat and return later.
Caversham Wildlife Park
Caversham Wildlife Park is a family-owned and operated wildlife park. It features around 200 different species with farm shows and close-up animal encounters. You could milk a cow or bottle-feed a lamb at the farm show. Don’t be shy to volunteer and participate. One of the most popular things to do at Caversham Wildlife Park is to feed the kangaroos. You will be provided with kangaroo food and can interact with these friendly animals in a spacious friendly enclosed area. Another fun thing to do is meet a koala bear. This is an excellent opportunity for photos and you can even hold one of the little koalas. Light meals and snacks are available and the park is wheelchair friendly.
Elizabeth Quay
Located in the Perth CBD is Elizabeth Quay. The banks of the Swan River provide a beautiful backdrop to this waterfront precinct. There are many great things here including the BHP Billiton Water Park. It’s a water playground that runs for 50 minutes each hour. Next up is the Elizabeth Quay Carousel. It was imported from Italy and has beautiful horses and old-world designs. Right next door is The Perth Bell Tower. Every hour the bells, which are from Saint Martin in the Fields church in London, are rung by hand. The kids will love The Island Playground at Elizabeth Quay. The young ones will find so much to do here.
Northbridge
Just a five-minute walk from central Perth, the Northbridge area is a popular cultural spot. It is home to Perth’s Chinatown and has some outstanding food and coffee shops. During the day visit the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art or the Art Gallery of Western Australia. The Perth Cultural Centre also calls Northbridge home. To really experience the food and drink in Northbridge the Eat The Street Walking Tours are a great option. Locals will take you to enjoy some great food and drink. Later, just relax in one of the stylish cocktail lounges or burn off your energy at one of the upscale clubs.
